Visa Costs
Turkey:
October, 2005
60 USD
Purchased at the border where there train from Bucharest to Istanbul crosses into Turkey. No photos required, no paperwork to fill out. Just buy the visa stamp before going over to the passport office. Strangely, visa stamp said "45USD" on it but I don't think I got over charged because the officer looked up "Canada" on some plastised sheet.
Syria:
November, 2005
80 TRY (New Turkish Lira) for Syrian visa
57.50 TRY (New Turkish Lira) for Canadian Letter of Recommendation
5 TRY (New Turkish Lira) for typewriter services.
Received visa at the Syrian Consulate in Istanbul. Had to get a letter of recommendation from the Canadian consulate which took just a few minutes without an appointment. Syrian consulate wanted two passport photos. Had to type out the Syrian visa application form, typewriter around corner from Syrian Consulate. Was able to pick up visa same day at 3pm, no hassles crossing Turkey-Syria border a week later.
Jordan:
December 5, 2005
10 Jordanian Dollars
Purchased visa at the Syrian/Jordanian border while crossing on the Hejaz from Damascus to Amman. Needed to pay in Jordanian dollars, US currency was not accepted. However, there was a Western Union exchange booth about a 5 minute walk from the border station and the train waited while I exchanged money. No questions nor paperwork to fill out, just 10 JD and you get the stamp in the passport.
December 13, 2005
5 Jordanian Dinars
Had to pay a departure tax in Aqaba before boarding the fast ferry to Nuweiba. Tax was paid in Jordanian Dinars.
Egypt:
December 13, 2005
97 Egyptian Pounds
Purchased visa on arrival in Nuweiba at ferry terminal. Can either pay in Egyptian Pounds or US dollars. In US dollars, the fee was 15$, which is about 1.50$US cheaper then paying in Egyptian pounds. There is a currency exchance center at the ferry terminal for exchanging money. (I changed my Jordanian currency to Egyptian, the purchased the visa).

One passport photo was required. I had to fill out a basic visa application form, then waited about 1 hour while they processed it. Nothing else was required.
