New photo posting system...

Cairo, Egypt

Several of you have complained that the lack of pictures with my postings really sucks. I couldn't agree more but the time it takes me to post pictures is orders of magnitude more then the time it takes to type up an update. It also doesn't help that the photo management tools that Blogger provides pretty much suck. So, after jumping through way more hoops then any of you are interested in(*), I've got a new system of posting photos that uses Flickr to show them instead of Blogger.

Hopefully this works ok for everyone and doesn't provide too sucky of an experience. I'd have preferred to just have the photos part of each blog update, but that's just way to time consuming when you're working on a crappy computer at some random internet cafe.

So yeah, let me know if you have any problems with the new setup. Hopefully now I'll be able to upload more photos since it's now a bit easier, though still more time consuming then it should be...

*- Sometimes it's good to be a geek because in this instance, in order to properly purchase a "pro" Flickr account using the terrible PayPal system, I had to setup a proxy server that was in the US and route my web sessions through that from Egypt. To combat security and credit card fraud, PayPal puts a bunch of restrictions in place when making a credit card purchase from outside the US, not the least of which is the requirement that you supply banking information and be able to receive a telephone call at the number associated with your credit card! For users paying from a US based computer, or a computer that appears to be in the US, these restrictions do not apply and you can just make the purchase as you normally would. Yes, sometimes it does pay to be a geek when you need to setup shit like this from an internet cafe in Cairo, Egypt...
