Arrived in Nairobi, Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya

Well after a long journey, I arrived in Nairobi, Kenya this afternoon. Just to give you an idea of what my last week or so of travel was like, it went something like this:

Saturday, February 18 -
Catch bus from Arba Minch, Ethiopia to Weyto, Ethiopia

Saturday night, 10:30pm -
Hitch a ride on the top of a delivery truck from Weyto, Ethiopia to Turmi, traveling through the southern Ethiopia desert (Omo Valley) thruogh the night, arriving around 2:30am. (Amazing experience)

Sunday - Monday,
Turmi, Ethiopia to visit the Hammer tribe

Tuesday,
Hitch a ride in the back (bed) of a huge construction dump truck from Turmi, Ethiopia to Konso, Ethiopia

Wednesday,
Spend day in Konso (small, small, town) waiting for transport to Yabelo, Ethiopia which never appeared.

Thursday,
Hitch a ride on the top of a vegetable "market" truck from Konso, Ethiopia to Yabelo, Ethiopia

Friday,
Catch bus from Yabelo, Ethiopia to Moyale, Ethiopia/Kenya (border town)

Saturday,
Take truck from Moyale, Kenya towards Nairobi, but get a flat just 2 hours into the journey at our lunch break. After a few hours of attempted repairs, driver decides to send worker back to Moyale to get some new spare tires since ours are no good. Spend the night in really small town with no electricity.

Sunday,
Spare, spares arrive from Moyale and we're back on the "road" around noon. Travel all day and all night heading south towards Nairobi on roads that barely qualify as roads.

Monday,
Quick nap on the side of the road around 5am for about an hour, then continue south, arriving in Nairobi around 1.30pm after almost 24 hours of straight driving through northern Kenya.

Anyways, clearly there is lots to catch up on and photos to post so now that I'm back online I'm going to spend the next few days in Nairobi catching up on everything from email to laundry.

For those curious, I'm at the "New Kenyan Lodge" in Central Nairobi.
